I love to read, especially real, paper and ink, books. And while some of you might argue that the production of hard copy books are bad for the environment, we need to remember that we’re not all perfect and that’s ok.
Lots of books of an environmentally conscious nature, actually donate portions of proceeds to charities and initiatives, not to mention that they’re also teaching us and giving us the tools to do better for the world, (and lets not get into the people’s jobs that are created for book production, manufacturing and distributing) so surely we can make some minor exceptions for the greater good.
Here are some of my fave eco friendly books! Waste not, Erin Rhodes
This book has it all! There are tips for everyone for small to massive changes that can help save the planet, yourselves and your nard earned time and money. It’s down to earth and easy to follow and implement. My copy is full of notes and tabbed pages. From sustainable kitchen and cooking tips, to toxin free beauty products, to how to plan and pull off an eco friendly event, there really is something for everyone.
101 small ways to change the world, Lonely Planet Kids
This might seem a bit silly as it’s a book aimed at kids but it’s mostly applicable to all on this planet. Its a fun layout with plenty of activities for the kids and/or the young at heart. Being formatted for children, it’s easy to follow and implement And has tips and info on everything from looking after animals, donating and volunteering and staying healthy. I love that it’s divided into Caring for others, caring for the planet and caring for yourself.
This one wild and precious life, Sarah Wilson. This one seems a little out of the box if you know anything about Sarah Wilson, but within the first 30 pages, I was hooked! This soul searcher of a book not only talks heavily about climate change, our dependence on the capitalist model but also goes into our existential loneliness and disconnection from each other and ourselves. Sarah is a huge advocate of looking after ourselves and our planet. This book will hit home for everyone in potentially many ways.
101 Organic gardening hacks, Shawna Coronado
This one just makes sense. It was gifted to me and I love it. This one is great for gardeners, upcyclers, handy people and DIYers, artsy types and general eco conscious folk. With heaps of ideas for up cycling or reusing household items and discarded products, it will teach you how to improve your gardens looks, grow better fruits and veggies, grow beautiful flora and look after our local fauna.
Grow food anywhere, Dillon Seitchik-Reardon and May Pembler.
This is a bible. These guys can grow anything, anywhere. It’s a self proclaimed small space gardening guide that works a treat. With guides and indexes on your climate zone, times to plant, PH levels, times to harvest, a full page dedicated to particular plants, how to plant, water, feed and harvest. It also has sections on troubleshooting, pests and diseases and soil maintenance. It’s a one stop shop for getting started in the garden.
Im always on the look out for awesome info in great books. So let me know your fave books and tell me how you found my top 5.
Happy reading.
