Next came the reusable straws! Once I had my keep cup, it spurred me on to check out more environmentally friendly products and options, and so, reusable straws were next on my list.
I looked around in heaps of stores and online at homeware stores and nowhere had them...
But then I came across a brand on Instagram called Green & Kind https://greenandkind.com/ and followed their posts to Flora & Fauna https://www.floraandfauna.com.au/ where I bought these.

I was a bit concerned about them to begin with, what a strange idea they were. I had to remember to carry them with me everywhere (which isn't an issue as I carry a huge handbag or a backpack haha) and then remembering to wash them and put them back in my bag (as with the keepcups, thats why I bought multiples, so some can be washed while others are still ready to go)
But after a few uses, it becomes a totally normal practice, quick and easy and saves thousands of extra straws going out into the world.
If I used 2 straws per week, every week, for the 30 years I've been alive, that's 3120 straws!!
Reusable straws are now available everywhere and for super cheap. I bought my family packs from Kmart (in the party section) for Christmas #bestgiftever
The only thing I've found with them is that they get Very cold haha. When drinking a boost or smoothie, they get very cold very quickly so just keep that in mind so you don't get a brain freeze!
Also, they're not really suitable for young kids, as they could have an accident... There are silicone versions available (I haven't tried them out yet and they only really seem to be available on eBay)
Another thing... McDonalds is again on my Naughty list! It doesn't matter how many times you ask, at how many windows, they will probably still give you straws... best advice, just don't go to Maccas.
Some great initiatives about reusable straws.

There has also been some amazing progress amongst businesses and restaurants to ban single use plastic straws. Grill'd are plastic straw free! Boost introduced paper straw options (should be compulsory)
So in short, reusable straws are cheap, easy to carry, easy to wash and store and are making a HUGE difference in reducing our waste and environmental impact.
